Our involvement was to surface the upgraded existing site access from the A701. This included the surfacing of 1,700m2 of access road with base, binder and HRA 55/14 surface course together with the associated tie-in with the A701.
There was an added complication in that we were required to maintain access to the site throughout the course of our works. This was overcome by undertaking the works at the weekend and utilising up to 30nr tippers per day to guarantee the supply of material from our plant at Troon.

The improvements were to be made in order to accommodate vehicle traffic when ferry services are transferred from Wemyss Bay to Gourock and to accommodate the passenger-only services currently operating from other berths at the terminal.
Hillhouse Contracts were contracted to undertake the shoreside works which included the planing and resurfacing of the car park and vehicle access routes to and from the terminal.
This included the planing and resurfacing of approximately 6,000m2 of carriageway. All planings were returned to our Glasgow Asphalt Plant at Cambuslang for recycling. The surfacing works required 700t’s of HRA 55/14 and were completed in one week.
